Charles Buchan Mugs

Finding a Christmas present under £10 for him can be difficult.  Leaving aside the multipack socks or boxer shorts, which you always give him every Christmas, make sure you ring the changes this year and surprise him with something different.

Most people will have a favourite mug to use at home or in the office, the use of someone else mug is just so socially unacceptable and will annoy the owner.  With this in mind, make sure he stands out from the crowd with one of these Charles Buchan mugs.

These dishwasher safe ceramic mugs feature pictures from a bygone error of football.  Back in 1951 Britain’s first glossy football magazine was the voice of football, cheering up a grey post-war nation with its integrity and sparkling analysis.  These printed mugs come in four designs , white, blue, yellow and a montage design presented in a Charles Buchan branded gift box.

This printed mug is a grand reminder of how it was back then – hot shots, hot coca, chivalry and Brylcreme.  It was the golden age of football.  If you want to spend a bit more then team this mug with Charles Buchan flask, wallet or football from the rest of our Charles Buchan range.

Leather Jewellery Rolls make sophisticated gifts for her this Christmas

With all the doom and gloom around you could be forgiven for thinking Christmas had been cancelled. However, if you venture to the High Street you will notice that it appears to be as busy as it has ever been. So if you want to beat the crowds this Christmas and you are looking for the best price, on-line shopping is the answer.

The important thing with on-line shopping is to get organized and order early. Not only does this ensure you will receive your order well before the 25th December it also helps spread the cost of Christmas.

Back to Black with a splash of colour from Kazuri

No doubt all of us ladies will have seen that black is back for the Autumn/Winter.  So just as you reach for your safe black clothes of which we all have plenty, it is worth considering that whilst black can look very chic and flattering to the figure, it can also look a bit drab and can make the fair skinned amongst us look very washed out.  It is possible to get round this by accessorizing with a bit of colour.  Red shoes or a handbag or jewellery can look great against a black canvas, as can most bright colours.  If you fancy something a little more demure, colours in chocolate and white can lift and keep the sophisticated edge.

Kazuri jewellery can really lift an outfit as it comes in many colours.  To follow the red theme, the Kazuri necklace, bracelet and earrings in cherry will complete a black outfit with striking effect.

If red is just a bit too eye catching and you would feel more comfortable in something more subtle, then the Beehive Gaby necklace combines chocolates and bronze for a rich looking finish.  If you like to keep it more golden than chocolate coloured, then the Pita Pat necklace in Gold is a excellent alternative.  If you love winter white but don’t love the drying cleaning bills that accompany clothes in such a colour, then the white mother of pearl look necklace, bracelet and earrings are just perfect and will see you through into Spring Summer.

Whatever you choose to accessorise your black clothes, remember black is chic but black clothes that have faded to charcoal sometimes even with a hint of green are not!  Scour the high street for some new black basics if your clothes fall into this category.

Cufflinks from Simon Carter

As people continue to dress down for work, men are wearing ties less and less. With the exception of the stoic professions such as Banking and Law that still dictate formal attire, ties are fast becoming a thing of the past. However, not the same can be said of cufflinks. Smart shirts can be combined with blazers in cord and velvet, jeans and smart shoes or Chelsea boots in an acknowledgment of smart meets causal. Cufflinks look stylish and fun irrespective of whether a tie is worn. The king of cufflinks himself, Simon Carter, continues to combine high quality materials with creative design making Simon Carter Cufflinks high on any mans wish list.

His aspirin cufflinks continue to be a best seller and what’s more they are engineered and made in the UK. His onyx and mother of pearl cufflinks have a subtle elegance to them and are great for a casual or more formal look.

In an understated look the black union jack cufflinks will bring out his patriotic side. Whereas the Dorium plated brass curved dumbell cufflinks have a quality that cheaper cufflinks do not all for £21.99. Cufflinks are a great gift for him, but make sure you go for designs from Simon Carter rather than cheaper alternatives for a marked difference in quality.

Christmas Gifts for Her and for Him

Christmas gifts for family and friends often means you want to buy something special. Special doesn’t have to mean expensive, just simply money well spent on a gift that shows thought and imagination.

A great gift for her is jewellery. Either concentrate your efforts on finding one great piece of jewellery such as Angie Gooderham’s show stopping designed necklaces

or instead combine a necklace, bracelet and earrings from Kazuri for a matching set of jewellery.

Combining different types of gifts with a similar theme is also is an excellent idea, such as a pendant from Martick and a beautiful jewellery roll from Jo Edwards.

Gifts for him can be difficult at the best of times but when it is for Christmas and there are lots of things on your to-do list, ensure that the men in your life are not forgotten with a Edwin Jagger Shaving Kit or Travel Shaving kit.

If he is a football fan, then the Charles Buchan Football Nostalgia Wallet or wash bag make excellent gifts for under £30.

There is no need to break the bank this Christmas to purchase a thoughtful gift that she or he will be thrilled to receive. Take a look at our Christmas To-do list to help you plan the holiday season.

Christmas Stocking and Secret Santa Gifts

Traditionally Christmas Stockings were pinned over the mantel piece and would be filled with fruit, sweets, chocolate and other small toys for children to find on Christmas morning. People often use the term ‘stocking fillers’ today to describe small extra gifts that people give alongside other larger gifts, especially for children, or for when a smaller but thoughtful gift is required.

To keep the cost of Christmas down, groups of people such as colleagues can hold a ‘secret santa’, where a budget is set, usually between £5 to £15 and everyone in the group buys a present for one other person. This is usually decided by a draw out of a hat. This not only gets rid of awkwardness about who buys a present for whom but also helps to get everyone into the festive mood.

The only thing left is to decide is what to buy. Joke presents can work well but are not for everyone. You could start browsing our selection of Stocking Fillers which range from £3.99 to £14.95. You can sort by price bands and there is handcrafted chocolate from £3.99 to a Charles Buchan Flask at £14.95 and over 50 other gifts to choose from.

Fair Trade Gifts

People like the concept of fair trade, after all, it is extremely desirable to ensure that you are buying products that have not been produced as a results of sweat shop or child labour. It is not unreasonable in this day and age to expect that workers around the world can receive a fair days pay and are able to work in safe conditions. If we support fair trade, hopefully, certain practices that occur today which exploit vulnerable people in some of the poorest countries will become a thing of the past.

Fair trade isn’t just about coffee, tea and sugar, important though that is, it can also take other forms, we are now seeing more clothes where fair trade cotton is used, however, we do not see as many fair trade products that could be placed in the gift category.

Consumers have high expectations and it is not enough for products to be fair trade, they have to look stylish and be of an excellent quality too. Kazuri jewellery is an excellent example of this. Kazuri (which means small and beautiful in Swahili) is made by hand in Kenya and employs 300 local women. In an age of mass produced goods, this fair trade jewellery stands out as being individually crafted with each piece of jewellery being slightly different.

Earth squared bags, jewellery rolls and purses are fair trade in a number of developing countries. Their products are made and finished to an extremely high standard. The jewellery rolls are an excellent price at just £10.99 and the bags are fashionable and practical.

Our search for additional fair trade gifts at affordable prices continues, therefore ensuring that both the creators of the gifts and the people that buy the gifts get a fair deal.

Jewellery Rolls – a perfect gift for her for Christmas or any occassion

As women’s jewellery boxes creak at the strain of holding all their wonderful statement jewellery and the pressure to accessorize an outfit with the perfect jewellery be it at home or on your travels mounts, a jewellery roll might just be the most perfect gift for Christmas.

However neatly you place a necklace into a drawer it invariably manages to attach itself to something else resulting in a tangle. Organization is the key to looking after jewellery and easily being able to lay your hands on that perfect necklace that you may well have bought an outfit to go with.

Luckily jewellery rolls provide a pretty and cost effective solution. There is a extensive choice of fabrics, colours, and sizes to choose from that look equally stylish on dressing tables, in handbags and for that weekend away. Choose silk velvet for a luxurious feel with our fair trade range of jewellery rolls in french navy and cranberry to name but two. The fact that they are fair trade means that not only do you get a great present but you can feel good about buying a gift where the workers are paid a fair wage and work in good conditions. You can also select silk jewellery rolls with embroidered and beaded dragonfly designs at £9.99.

So whether it is her birthday or a friend in need of cheering up, jewellery rolls make the perfect gift for her during the credit crunch that won’t break the bank.

Kate Moss wears Angie Gooderham – Vogue October 2008

Every month at least one, if not many, leading magazines feature Angie Gooderham jewellery every month. The October edition of Vogue is no exception with Kate Moss wearing their fantastic studded silver coloured metal cuff. Angie Gooderham has been designing jewellery for over 20 years and is inspired by the creativity and bold use of colour seen in remote parts of the world, as well as by the soft balances and contrasts found in nature. Her intuitive eye for colour and shape is evident in her designs for each season.

Angie’s highly fashionable statement pieces can transform an average outfit into a memorable one and whilst her jewellery incorporates all that is up-to-the-minute in fashion jewellery, the timeless elegance of items such as her antique gold colour bangles will be admired year after year. Statement jewellery is no longer just something to be worn at night, it works to enhance a daytime outfit for the office too. Try her short beaded necklaces and bracelets, in shades of teal and black (as pictured) or silver and black for a sophisticated elegance. If you are looking for some evening glamour simply add some of Angie Gooderhams silver bangles in different sizes. These bracelets looked great when worn stacked on your arm or for a more subtle daytime look, just wear one.

Angie Gooderham strikes the perfect balance between fashion, style and price to create desirable jewellery that any woman would be thrilled to receive as a gift for Christmas.

D R Harris - October Vogue

In the Vogue Beauty section of October Vogue it states that the ‘independent chemists with their array of surprising, cure-all beauty products, provide an engaging alternative to the homogenised high street and a genuinely democratic experience. There’s no need for insider knowledge or pots of cash, which makes riffling through the various flower remedies and obscure face-muds so enjoyable’

Vogue loves DR Harris with its vertiginous wooden shelves and rickety rolling ladders tucked away in St James Street, Mayfair. If you can’t make it to Mayfair, we stock a range of DR Harris, from their famous Rose and Cucumber Cleanser to their Crystal Eye gel, both of which are popular with men and women alike. You can also select the ever popular Exfoliating Cream as a once or twice a week treat. The prices are lower than many of the usual High Street brands and given that DR Harris was established in 1790, their products are certainly tried and tested!

New Martick Jewellery Range

We have increased our range of Martick Designer silver jewellery to include many of their latest pieces. This includes their Large Bohemian glass heart and silver rose pendant in red, purple and aqua. As ever Martick have kept their famous murano glass heart pendants at the centre of the collection, so we have increased the colours we stock by adding a heart pendant in Blackberry, Turquoise and Platinum.

This includes the perfume bottle and charms pendant which incorporates a fully functioning screw top perfume bottle, an amethyst and detachable gold plated swallow charms. The blue goldstone large disc pendant is a real statement piece with the added interest of the sparkling goldstone which catches the light. The sterling silver oval locket has a timeless elegance and the velvet ribbon adds an additional sophistication.

Martick continues to create beautiful quality jewellery with a fashionable edge, and we are very happy to stock it at

Papuro – Luxury Leather Italian Journals

Many high street stores offer a range of journals which include some famous brand names, such as Moleskine. Moleskine journals are great as notebooks and planners, and the elastic strap keeps loose papers that you may have placed in your notebook safe. However, I am not sure I would purchase one as a gift for someone. Some how it just lacks the extra touch of luxury and hand crafted look and feel that a journal that is being bought as a gift should have.

As an alternative to moleskine journals and still in the popular small notebook style, Papuro offer hand crafted Italian Leather journals designed in Wales and made in Italy. The high quality acid free paper and sumptuous leather covers are truly luxurious. The Roma journal is perfect for a traditional look journal, whereas the Amalfi journal in raspberry is perfect for a gift for her. The black Torcello and brown Capri journals are practical for the office and a stylish addition to any desk at home.

A journal is a excellent present for the person that likes to record his/her thoughts or simply as an aid to organizing their busy lives. Just make sure the journal you buy is in exquisite leather and hand-made, for a gift that will be appreciated.

Eve Magazine September 2008 – Purple Necklace

For Autumn/Winter there are plenty of rich jewel like colours on the high street for clothes and jewellery.  These include sapphire blue, ruby red and garnet green.  These colours are available in not just clothes, but, handbags, shoes and jewellery, so there is no excuse to be stuck in black this coming season.

Another colour which you cannot fail to miss is purple.  Purple can of course be teamed with black, and also navy.  Purple can also work as a base colour, as you can wear it with olives, burgundies, and deep greens.  If you don’t want the expense of several new items of clothing, a purple patent handbag or shoes will breathe life into an otherwise tired outfit.  Failing that, a purple necklace such as featured in September’s Eve Magazine from Hobbs for £45 will instantly add sophistication.

If you would like to have matching jewellery, the purple Kazuri necklace, bracelet, stud or double drop earrings fit the bill and will give you a lift as the autumnal evenings take hold.  Kazuri means ‘small and beautiful’ and is fair-trade jewellery made in Kenya so you can feel good about that too!

Organic Skincare – Sunday Times Style Magazine 27th July 2008

The Sunday Times Style Magazine hailed a new range of organic skincare called Inlight as their  ‘Lust of the week’.  Created by the homeopathic doctor behind the organic brand Spiezia, there are now many organic skincare products on the market, so why are they so popular?

Up to 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream and whilst we are quite good at taking care of outward appearances, we don’t seem to put as much time into worrying about what goes on beneath the surface.  Many cleansers, face creams and body moisturisers contain a cocktail of chemicals even though much of packaging and marketing will encourage a pure look and feel to the products.  The downside to organic skincare can be the price with many brands occupying the higher end of the market.

This is where Trevarno have the edge over the opposition.   Their products are organic and are made in Cornwall, but they do not cost a fortune, with the Rose and Jojoba cleanser costing £17 and the Day Cream comes in at £10.  Their hand cream contains olive and almond oil making for a very effective moisturising cream.  Their baby salve and baby massage oil provide a chemical free solution so it will not irritate baby’s skin.  As with all Trevano products, a little goes a long way.

Their products are packaged in jewel coloured pots inspired by the beautiful peacocks on the Trevarno estate.  They are sure to make a stylish addition to any bathroom.

Simon Carter Accessories

Simon Carter started designing men's pewter brooches in London in the mid 80s, and soon the product range expanded to sunglasses, watches and cufflinks. Ten years later Simon Carter had cornered the cufflink market through iconic designs like the 'Aspirin' cufflink. Since the beginning Simon Carter has struck a chord with urban professionals looking to inject a contemporary lightness of touch in their own personal style.

We have chosen to stock a collection of Simon Carter accessories at unbeatable prices. The moc croc leather wallet and soft Italian leather wallet are great examples of the craftsmanship that goes in to all Simon Carter accessories. If you are looking for cufflinks, the aspirin cufflinks are stylish and quirky. A classic alternative would be the white mother of pearl and black onyx cufflinks, which give a smart finish to any outfit. The Simon Carter pen in brown or grey marbled celluloid is a perfect addition any desk.

Simon Carter in the Press
"Simon Carter has made his name with his quirky English take on design. His elegant suits with ordnance survey map linings are worn by everyone from Will Smith to Jonathan Ross; his leather wallets are lined with personlised vintage comic stirps, and his witty cufflinks have become de riguer to add a twists to a sober city outfit. Few designers can actually live the dream they peddle. But there is no doubt of Simon's commitment to celebrating English style". - Style Sunday Times November, 2007
